7 Things

This is a list of 7 things that you may not suspect about me:

1. I have very good muscle tone. No guffawing allowed from those who know me in real life. This is not just my opinion - hey, I was as surprised as anyone to hear this. My doctor said it to me today so it's a learned medical opinion. I could go on and tell you about my clear lung sounds and noticeable absence of an S4, but that would be just bragging.

2. I can produce an attractive and delicious meal out of almost any combination of ingredients or lack thereof. When I choose to. Mostly, I choose not to. I put in my time mothering and cleaning and cooking, but I don't see this as a life sentence. There has to be an end point. Now I'm strictly a hobbyist.

3. I have absently-mindedly run three red lights in the last 2 months. This isn't good. In fact, I am scaring myself.

4. My vibrato is very impressive. Too bad I can't carry a tune. God has blessed me and cursed me at the same time. I'm considering adding one of those cool little Audioblog buttons so you can hear for yourself.

5. Although my New Year's resolution for 2004 was to improve my handwriting, that only lasted as long as I kept up the daily practice. It's just as bad as ever now. When I try to recreate the lovely penmanship of my younger days even I can't make it out. I notice that when I change the angle to straight up and down, it is far more legible.

6. I have a secret name. Its a nickname for my real name and I never tell anyone that this is the name I prefer, but if anyone should accidentally use it when addressing me, I fall in love with them forever.

7. It is very very important to me that everybody likes me but I make it just as hard as I can to come be likable. It's not so simple - I start out by being everybody's little ray of sunshine and then slowly allow a little peep into the real me. When i see them start to look doubtful, then I either give it to them with both barrels or act as if butter wouldn't melt in my mouth, according to my whim. I do it for my own amusement. It's a character flaw.

Disclaimer: this is not a meme. In case it's not clear yet, I don't hold with memes. This is just my own little 7 Things, which I have been doing in one place or the other since 2001. Ask anybody.

7 Things

Complete randomness:

1. I peeked over the counter in the bank this morning and saw a coin tray that had a bunch of 50c pieces in it. I can't remember the last time I saw one of those in circulation.

2. Things have reached the point where I have no desire for anymore stuff. I really have everything I need.

3. That doesn't mean that I don't still yearn for a pashmina shawl, because I do.

4. I decorated my little work space thusly: I bought 10" tall white gift bags and stuffed each one with a different color tissue paper. Then I put curl-tie ribbon dangling down from one handle and hung them from the ceiling by the other handle. They twist around when the heat blows and look real purty.

5. With age comes wisdom and experience has taught me that it was very foolish to become attached to the fish in the aquarium in the reception area at work. Fish come and fish go.

6. Using the dryer to dewrinkle your clothing selection in the morning might not be more economical than heating up the iron, but is sure is faster.

7. I stand by my assertion that restaurant soup is made from yesterday's leftovers and ingredients that are on the verge of spoiling. No one can convince me otherwise.

This is a list of seven things I ingested today:

1. coffee
2. a peach smoothie
3. a boneless porkchop
4. roasted broccoli seasoned with cumin and hot sauce

6. cheese
7. a boneless chicken breast

It may not seem like much of a life, but who's to judge, really?

This is a list of 7 things that upset me when people try to foist them upon me:

1. Carpet Fresh Powder - does not deordorize, rather it stinks like hell, sometimes worse than the odor it is meant to combat.

2. Pine Oil Cleaner from the dollar store - it's got the smell but not the cleaning power of the excellent brand-name product known as Pine-Sol. the dollar store version lays there like a lox and is only good for pouring into the toilet when the doorbell rings to make your visitors think that you have been cleaning.

3. Lapel ribbons - get your agenda away from me. If you want to wear a ribbon, go right ahead but do not dare approach me holding out a ribbon and a hatpin. I will stick you and don't think I won't.

4. Standing ovations - I'll stand up only if I want to, not because everybody else is standing.

5. Fresh himpmight - I don't know what this is because I can't decipher my own handwriting on the notes I wrote down for this entry, but I'm sure it is something very irritating.

6. Syndicated national talk radio broadcasts - scrubbed of any regional identity in order to appeal to the biggest common denominator, can it really appeal to anybody who is actaully paying attention?

7. Any news about Madonna - she still reeks of her personally  unsanitary past.
