I can't tell you exactly how the conversation wound round to James K. Polk because we were both suffering from lack of food for most of the day. By the time we got to the restaurant, it was after 8pm and neither one of us could finish a thought. After a few restorative bites of of turkey burger and pulled pork sandwiches, we were found ourselves reminiscing about how Polk was the president known as the Napoleon of the Stump because of his skillful oratory.
[The resourceful can make their own entertainment. It's a recession and we cannot fritter away our money letting others entertain us when we ourselves are perfectly capable of amusing ourselves with presidential history.]
Polk's last words were to his wife: "I love you, Sarah. For all eternity, I love you." What a surprise! Who knew that any previous president loved his wife? Where are the MSM reports about this? Also, Polk distrusted his allies AND his enemies and relied only on himself for making decisions.
Where am I going with this? Nowhere, really. I'm not about to claim that Barack is the new James K. Polk, or even that Michelle is the new Sarah Polk.
